Samanta Chandra Sekhar An Astronomer of the Millennium
Samanta Chandra Sekhar (1835-1904), popularly known as Pathani Samanta, is an important figure in the traditional Indian astronomy. His main work Siddhanta Darpana in Sanskrit was published with Prof. JC Ray’s English Introduction in 1899. A small volume summarising the life and works of this scientist was a long-awaited need, which this book aims to fulfil. The book outlines the works and achievements of the astronomer and presents the portrait of the man along with his innovation, perseverance, patience and intellectual honesty. This biography is distinct from literary life stories in the sense that it is scientific in spirit and carries a number of research results on Samanta.
